About BWB

Hi there! My name is Becky, and I am the founder of Bluewater Breaks. Professionally, most people know me as a passionate educator and coach who has been teaching abroad since 2014. Shortly after moving to Egypt, I achieved a lifelong goal of getting my scuba certification. Since then, my passion for underwater exploration has led me to complete my PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification and build up two professional identities: school teacher and diving professional. 

After a diving trip with a professional photographer, I was inspired to start underwater photography in 2019. At the time, I was also helping Deco Divers with their social media and marketing efforts. I started my journey as an underwater photographer to ensure Deco Divers always had high-quality and engaging content. As an adult, I was reminded of how difficult it can be to learn new skills, especially one as technical as underwater photography, where the equipment, subject, and light all need to align to make a beautiful photo.

After three years of developing my underwater photography skills, I finally felt ready to share my photos with others. Thanks to the creative support of some of my favorite diving buddies, the idea of Bluewater Breaks was started. Bluewater Breaks describes my current relationship with scuba diving. While I am a scuba instructor and have worked professionally in the diving industry, my underwater adventures only occur on weekends and holidays. Underwater exploration provides almost never-ending opportunities to overcome our fears and challenges, disconnect from our daily lives, have remarkable encounters with marine life, and connect to people worldwide. My favorite underwater photos are those that tell a story, and I am thrilled to now have this space to share my stories and adventures with others.
